Fortinet raises its sales outlook while trimming the service forecast
The two forecasts move in opposite directions. Reading them together gives a clearer view of the change than the headline alone.
Fortinet's latest outlook offers a useful reminder for anyone following an earnings release: a higher companywide forecast does not mean every part of the business received an upgrade.
In its October 28 results announcement, Fortinet (Nasdaq: FTNT) put expected fiscal 2026 revenue at $8.125 billion to $8.215 billion. Its July 29 release had projected $8.020 billion to $8.180 billion. But the new service revenue forecast is $5.150 billion to $5.170 billion, down from $5.180 billion to $5.220 billion. All amounts are in U.S. dollars.
The midpoint makes the split easier to see
TrendyVest's calculation puts the total revenue midpoint at $8.170 billion, up $70 million from the earlier $8.100 billion. The service midpoint moves the other way: $5.160 billion, down $40 million from $5.200 billion.
Subtracting service revenue from total revenue at those midpoints leaves $3.010 billion, compared with $2.900 billion previously. That $110 million increase in the remainder more than offsets the service reduction. This is an arithmetic comparison of forecast midpoints, not a separately issued product revenue guidance range.
What the change can tell you
The practical reading is that the higher headline contains a different mix. A reader assessing the service business should track its own forecast rather than treat the total revenue increase as a substitute.
There is also a difference between a lower forecast and falling reported sales. These figures compare two estimates for the same full year; they do not establish a year-over-year decline in service revenue.
The next useful check is whether actual results match each component of the outlook. The guidance remains management's expectation, subject to change. The midpoint bridge explains how the forecasts fit together; it cannot establish the cause of the revision or guarantee when revenue will arrive.
